Understanding Your Timetable

Each timetable contains all the information you need to plan your journey.

Route Number

Every bus service has its own route number, for example:

Service 1 – Douglas to Port Erin
Service 3 – Douglas to Ramsey
X3 – Express service between Douglas and Ramsey

The route number is displayed on the front and side of the bus.

Direction of Travel

Timetables are, with the exception of a few circular services, separated into two directions:

Outbound (travelling away from the starting point)
Inbound (returning towards the starting point)

Always ensure you are reading the timetable for the direction you wish to travel.

Timing Points

Not every bus stop appears within a timetable. Instead, key "timing points" are shown. These are major stops where buses are scheduled to depart at specific times. If boarding between timing points, simply be at your stop using the previous timing point as a guide. You can also track where your bus is on the route using findmybus.

Days of Operation

Some journeys only operate on particular days.

Look for symbols or headings indicating:

Monday to Friday
School Days
School Holidays
Saturdays
Sundays
Bank Holidays

A key to the symbols used is available on each timetable page. Always check that your intended journey operates on the day you plan to travel.

Bus Stops

Most bus stops are clearly marked with:

Bus stop flag
Stop name and number
Timetables and route information

Please signal clearly to the driver as your bus approaches. At night, a torch or lit phone screen will make it easier for the driver to see you.

Boarding the Bus

Please:

Allow passengers to leave first.
Have your payment or travel pass ready.
Tell the driver your destination if purchasing a ticket.
Keep luggage clear of aisles.
Take a seat whenever possible.

Wheelchair users and passengers with pushchairs have priority use of designated spaces.

During Your Journey

For everyone's comfort:

Remain seated where possible.
Hold handrails when standing.
Keep noise to a reasonable level.
Do not distract the driver.
Respect fellow passengers.

Leaving The Bus

Press the stop bell once shortly before your stop.
Remain seated until the bus has stopped.
The driver will stop at the next safe designated bus stop.
Please take all personal belongings with you.
